Uttar Pradesh (UP in short) is one of the prominent states of India. The state has 75 districts so has a vast network of public libraries. This tremendous network is being managed by State Education Department with Director, Intermediate Education, Lucknow as its head. The state is one of the few state that has a Library Act in force. There is also a post of Director, Libraries created separately under the act but is lying vacant. The Central State Library, Allabahad is the headquarter of the system. The mother tongue of the state is Hindi. The state capital is Lucknow.
