Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I become member of a library?
A user should submit a membership form along with requisite documents to the library of their choice to become a member. The form can be obtained from the library.
  • I am not a registered member, can I go the library and access services?
Of course, you can visit the library, use the reading room service, read the newspapers, magazines and periodicals etc., but you can't borrow any books unless you become a member of the library.
  • What are the entitlements of a registered member?
Entitlements vary as per your category, i.e. adult, children etc. Consult your library to know more about it.
  • I have lost my Library Membership Card. What should I do?
Immediately inform your library staff about the loss of the card so that nobody else can use it to borrow books on your behalf. Also, request the library staff to issue you a duplicate card, they will further guide you on this.
  • I have accidently damaged the book that I borrowed from the library, what should I do now?
Go the library, show them the damaged book, let them assess the damage and they will decide the gravity of the damage and guide your further. In case of a damage that has rendered the book unusable by other members, you may be asked for the replacement price of the book, or, if luckily, the damage is superficial, outer cover only, you may be asked to pay for the repairs only.
  • I couldn't return the books on time, what should I do?
Go the library with the books and apprise the staff of the conditions behind the delay, they will advise you further. If the delay was deliberate negligence they may fine you as per the rules in force or if you had genuine reason and the books was not in demand by other members, you may be considered favourably. The decision of the authorities will be final and binding. But approach the library staff immediately, so that you don't accrue more fines, as it is levied per day basis.
