Rajkya Sarvajanik Zila Pustakalya (District Library), Barmer
Origin
Barmer is the district headquarter of the Barmer District in Rajasthan state. It got its name from the ruler Bahada Rao Parmar (also spelt Panwar) or Bar Rao Parmar (Panwar) who is said to have founded the town in the 13th century. At that time it was named Bahadamer.
The library was established in the year 1955. It got its own building in 1970 at its preesent location.
Building
The has a single storey building with a Reading Room-cum-Stack Room, Stack Room, Librarian's office and store.
Location
Barmer is located on NH 15 and is about 800 Kms from national capital New Delhi and about 530 Kms from state capital Jaipur.
The library is located at the center of the city, near Gandhi Chowk, opposite to the City Municipality Office. The city bus stand and railway station are around 500 meters away.

Collection
The library has a rich collection of 40000+ books. The whole collection has been divided into many general and special collections arranged according to DDC-19 classification scheme with CCC catalogue. The process of automation is underway using E-pustakalya.
The library subscribes to 10 newspapers in English & Hindi and 30 magazines.

Membership
The library has around 225 registered active members for this session.
The library offers membership for a period of one session (1st April to 31st March) and is renewable thereafter. The membership fee is as under,
Membership Fee: - Adults Rs 30 (form price Rs 1 extra)
- Children (5-14 years) Rs 30 (form price Rs 1 extra)
Information Technology
The library has one computer. The automation of library operations is underway.
Working Hours
The library remains closed on every Tuesday. The library timings vary according to the season.
- Summer (Ist April to 30th September) 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm
- Winter (Ist October to 31st March) 11:00 am to 7:00 pm
