Rajkya Sarvajanik Zila Pustakalya (District Library), Nagaur


Origin

Nagaur is the district headquarter of the district with the same name in Rajasthan state of India. The city is of historical importance as it finds mention Mahabharta. It is said to have been founded by the Naga Kshatriyas who ruled the region in the 4th century BC. It was capital of Jangaldesh. 7th Century onwards Chauhans ruled the region.

The library was established in 1955. Actually there already was a library by the name 'Nagaur Pustakalya' started by some local good smartians, who donated their own collections. Later this library was converted into District Library.

Building

The library has a single storey building with two Stack Rooms, Reading Room, Children's Corner and Office.

Location

Nagaur is located at a distance of about 460 Kms from National Capital New Delhi and about 250 Kms from State capital Jaipur.

The library is located near the Gandhi Chowk in the Main Market. The city bus stand and railway station are in opposite directions and at a distance of 2 Kms from each other. The library is in the center with a distance of about 1 Km from both the railway station and bus stand.

Collection

The library has a rich collection of 41,000+ books. The whole collection has been divided into many general and special sub-collections according to DDC classification scheme and an AACR-2 catalogue. Of this 21000 books have been added to electonic catalogue also (e-pustakalya).

The library subscribes to 8 newspapers in English & Hindi and 85 magazines.

Membership

The library offers membership for a period of one session (1st April to 31st March) and is renewable thereafter. There membership fee is very nominal, but a refundable security of Rs 1000 needs to be paid at the time of Ist registration by outsiders. This secutiry is carried forward during periodical renewals. The membership fee is as under,

Information Technology

The library has a computer for office and automation use with internet connectivity. The library also offers a photocopy facility. The children section is equipped with audio/visual material. The library is using e-pustakalya for automaiton purpose.

Working Hours

The library remains closed on every Tuesday. The library timings vary according to the season.

  • Summer (Ist April to 30th September) 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm
  • Winter (Ist October to 31st March) 11:00 am to 7:00 pm
